Interview with Professor Miriam Löwensteinová highlights the historical context of the Korean War orphans project

An interview (in Czech) with Miriam Löwensteinová, a leading Czech scholar of Korean studies at Charles University, has been published on UK Forum. The conversation reflects on the importance of presenting history not only through written narratives but also through visual materials, archival sources, and personal memories.

The interview accompanies the exhibition Hand in Hand with Korea: (Post)War Years held at Kampus Hybernská, which explores historical links between Czechoslovakia and the Korean Peninsula in the aftermath of the Korean War.

The themes discussed in the interview closely relate to our project on North Korean war orphans in Czechoslovakia. During the 1950s, hundreds of Korean children affected by the war were hosted in Czechoslovak children’s homes, forming a unique chapter of humanitarian cooperation and Cold War history. By highlighting the importance of personal testimonies, visual documentation, and public exhibitions, Professor Löwensteinová’s reflections help place this little-known episode into a broader historical and cultural context.
