6th Conference of the Young Koreanists at University Palacký in Olomouc

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with the University Palacký in Olomouc to organise the 6th Conference of the Young Koreanists.

The conference took place on the 14th of February at the University Palacký in Olomouc. A total of 10 candidates from master’s or doctoral programs presented their papers at the conference, 8 of which were foreign. This international atmosphere allowed young koreanists to network with their colleagues from different countries and create important ties between Korean studies institutes across Europe.

The presented papers covered various topics, covering most of the popular topics among Koreanists. There were papers about korean cinematography, history, women studies, North Korean studies and so on.

The Conference of the Young Koreanists is a traditional event at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. The first year happened in 2012, second one in 2015. In 2017, we had the first international year in English with 2019 following in the same manner. And finally, the last two Conferences have been organized in collaboration with FF UP.

This year of the Conference has been accompanied by an essay contest where the students from FFUK and FFUP competed with their essay on the topic of “Korean Literature in Czech Translation.” The winners have been awarded with books.

The first place was taken by Kristina Folvarčná from FF UP, the second placed was Petra Kubačková from FF UK, and in the third place was Jiří Jelínek from FF UK.
