
The Department of Korean Studies at Charles University and the Korea and the Eastern Bloc Institute are opening a new semester-long course North Korea in the 21st Century in the Winter Semester 2025/2026.
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental issues related to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The course consists of 12 lectures covering both historical and contemporary topics. This lecture series is designed as a foundation for further, more advanced study and is open to all students of Charles University.

Mgr. Jaromír Chlada
Czech koreanist specializing in North Korea.
Jaromír Chlada studied Korean Studies at Charles University in Prague, where he focused on the political, economic, and social development of the DPRK. He has experienced living in both, North and South Korea, gaining rare first-hand experience with local society and everyday life. During his time in South Korea, he taught Korean language courses at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul. Back in the Czech Republic, he has long been active in language didactics. At the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, he regularly teaches the course Introduction to North Korean Studies. He is also frequently consulted by Czech media as an expert on North Korean affairs.
