From July 17–19, 2025, the International Conference of the Central & Eastern European Society of Koreanology (CEESOK) in collaboration with the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) brought together scholars from across the globe in Budapest for “Expanding Frontiers in Korean Studies Research Materials: Scholarly Utilization of Archival Collections.”
The conference focused on new approaches to archival research and the expanding use of historical sources in Korean Studies. Representing Charles University, Karolína Šamánková and Lukáš Kubík actively participated in the program. Karolína Šamánková was honored with the opportunity to deliver a special lecture during the opening day, where she introduced her ongoing research and reflected on methodological challenges in working with transnational archival materials.

Lukáš Kubík presented a joint paper together with Camilo Aguirre Torrini from the University of Chile, highlighting comparative perspectives and lesser-known archival sources that connect Korea with Latin America and Central Europe. Their collaboration underscored the growing importance of international scholarly dialogue in uncovering global dimensions of Korean history.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to take part in such an intellectually stimulating and collegial event, and we look forward to future CEESOK gatherings!
